Red Rhythm Finishes Season with Big Win
Liberty High School's Red Rhythm Dance Team just completed its third competition season at the Prestige Dance "Metroplex Extravaganza" on Saturday, March 7, 2009. The young team swept the Medium High School team division, winning 1st place honors for their Military, Modern and Pom routines, on their way to winning the highest award of the competition – the Prestige Award, for having the highest overall scores of any size school or dance studio team.
In addition, the team won a Prominent Team award for having no routine score below 90, and a Judge's award for the best precision team. Not to be out done, the Red Rhythm Officer Line received 1st place awards for their Jazz and Modern routines and 2nd place for their Hip Hop.
This competition was the culmination of the team's most successful season yet. On Saturday, February 28th, Red Rhythm competed in the ADTS "Texas Dance Classic" in Rowlett, TX where they were judged Best In Class for Medium High School Teams (tie) and won honors for their Choreography, Precision, Presentation and Technique. They also won a Sweepstakes Trophy for having no score below 90, and were awarded numerous Judge's Awards and a Gussie Nell Davis award. In the Best of the Best competition, their scores placed them tied for 2nd place High School team out of the 19 high schools competing.
The Red Rhythm Officer Line also took home a Sweepstakes Trophy for their routines, and were honored for their Choreography and Technique. The officers also received Judge's Awards and a Gussie Nell Davis award of their own. The officer line of Cpt. Kelsea Gibson, 1st Lt. Kayleigh Nicholson, Sr. Lt. Laura Manley and Jr.Lt. Neha Reddy, also did well in the Solo competition. Laura Manley placed 1st overall. Gibson and Nicholson tied for 3rd and Reddy tied for 5th overall. The Red Rhythm duet team of Ashley Hale and Kallie Stobaugh also took home 1st place honors; as did the team’s large ensemble.
The team's first contest of the year was the Crowdpleasers "DFW Showcase" on February 21st. The team won a Super Sweepstakes trophy (no score under 90) and was 2nd runner Grand Champion. Their Military routine was named Best in Class and Best Choreography, and was the highest scoring of any size team. Additionally, Red Rhythm was 1st runner-up for their Modern and Pom routines, and their Pom was given the Best Choreography award.
The Red Rhythm officers also took home a Sweepstakes trophy; as well as a Best in Class award for their Modern routine and a 2nd runner-up for their Jazz routine.
The Red Rhythm Dance Team is in its third year and is under the direction of Denise Stepp and assistant Director Nicole Nothe. The dance team will close out the year with their 2nd annual Red Rhythm Revue on Friday and Saturday, April 24 – 25, 2009.
